My Work with Children

Colors of Fall
The children were curious about the change in seasons, so we had conversations about Fall. I decided to bring in some items in nature to explore the colors of fall during our discussions. The children got to mix colors and paint with nature. Other painting items were provided to make room for choice.

We talked about how rain is made and proceeded to perform an experiment with water in a jar, food coloring and shaving cream. We learnt that when the clouds are full, it rains. The children liked the experiment so much that we decided to try some sticky science with the shaving cream. Things stick when we add shaving cream to them.

Making a Maze
We were curious about mazes and how things move through them. I provided the children with some paper plates, masking tape, straws and added some marbles. I also left some scissors on the table, I wanted to see what the children might do with them. I tried to make a maze of my own and left it on the table. Child A was very interested and ended up making a maze, showing us how it worked and he also made a different style of maze. Cognitive skills were in display as he became the teacher for a while.

Marble Run
The children were still curious about mazes so I asked them what they could build with cardboard tubes. They had cardboard tubes and tape. They proceeded to problem solve and make a marble run that would actually work. After a couple of tries, they succeeded at getting their marble through the maze.
